Low wage workers don't need to be trapped by non-compete contracts. This bill is a little to generous but better than trapped forever.
Dear Representative, I am writing to urge you to support HB 1188, which would raise the income threshold for non-compete agreements from 200% to 500% of the federal poverty level. Non-compete agreements trap workers in jobs they cannot leave, limiting mobility and suppressing wages—particularly for education support professionals who are often contracted out by school districts. These workers could otherwise become direct, in-house employees, strengthening district staffing and improving continuity for students. By modernizing the non-compete threshold, HB 1188 would help school districts recruit and retain critical staff while protecting workers’ ability to seek better employment opportunities. This is a commonsense step that supports both employees and our public education system. Please vote in favor of HB 1188. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Rachel Thurrott Epping, NH
