I support HB1276 because allowing appropriate liability for the wrongful death of a companion animal promotes accountability and reflects the value families place on their pets. I encourage the committee to ensure the remedy is fair, reasonable, and clearly defined.

17 submissionsAs much as I love my animals I know they are not people and that in our laws they are property. This bill is another in a long series of bills over the years that attempts to equate animals to people under the law. It also intents to hold only a certain section of the population to account for negligent or intentional actions as it excludes "III. This action shall not: (a) Apply to a nonprofit entity or governmental agency, or its employees, negligently causing the death of a pet while acting on behalf of public health or animal welfare. (b) Authorize an award of noneconomic damages in an action for professional negligence against a licensed veterinarian. " Showing that the loss of a companion animal isn't important if it dies due to the actions the entities listed in III. The bill also confuses the word dog with the words companion animal as if dogs are the only companion animals. I am against creating laws that do not apply equally across the population and that try to turn animals into people under the law. Please vote this bill inexpedient to legislate. Nancy Holmes
Children who take puberty blockers, hormones, or who have surgery for gender (secondary sex trait modification) are not adequately informed of the risks. Everything is hunky dory for a time. It takes years as well as experience for them to understand the severe health ramifications. Give them this time! What these providers are doing is criminal
I believe there should be a higher price to pay for causing the death of a pet, but this is a good start. No pet, no matter if they are big or small, should be left to die or be killed by a human.
