I am writing in support of HB 1420-FN, the Lift Our Communities Advertise Locally Act. Local newspapers play a vital role in our communities by reporting on town government, schools, public safety, and local events—coverage that no national media outlet provides. Small businesses also rely on effective local advertising to reach their customers. This bill encourages investment in local economies by supporting small businesses that choose to advertise with local media. It is a practical, targeted, and temporary approach that benefits communities across New Hampshire.

Real reporting is expensive and requires "boots on the ground" in order to get the real, total story. Some financial support will keep our local and especially, rural news organizations going.

Local news outlets have been disappearing across the country and we cannot let that trend continue in our state. Local Newspapers provide important voices to the communities to which they serve and are largely reliant on small businesses within their reach to stay alive. This bill encourages investment in local economies by supporting the very same aforementioned small businesses that keep our local media alive. It is critical to the future of localism in NH.. Lets make it happen!
We need this bill to support our local newspapers and small businesses
As a local female owned small business in Laconia I’ve seen firsthand the success of advertising in the Laconia Daily Sun has done for me. I think outside the box and use my three black Labrador bros in the ads. It has saved my business. Please pass this bill. And if you would like me to restock would.

Although there are many ways to promote on social media, many people do not have social media as an outlet. Promoting your business via newspapers and radio stations, for example, gives you a wider range to get business. I respectfully urge the committee to support this bill. Thank you for your consideration.

Strongly support to help local journalism.
This bill is important to our local communities as if passed it will encourage small businesses to advertise in local newspapers and other local media which will have the important effect of keeping local advertising money in our local communities which will provide important support for the local newspapers and other local media which in turn are very important to us, the people of our communities, as they are a very important source of news and other important information to us (the citizens of our state).
In this day of disappearing local newspapers, we need to support those that still exist. They benefit all of us, as they cover news that would otherwise be discussed only on social media. In addition to subscribing and/or purchasing the daily or weekly editions, another way we can support them is through advertising. Please vote for HB 1420, which imposes no mandate but simply provides a temporary tax credit to encourage local businesses to support local media.
Newspapers may be the most important part of our media to keep the public informed. Our communities, state and the country are a better place because newspapers exist. Please support this bill. Thank you
I support this bill so I can keep my business local to the community so that people around me can flourish.

Hello, my name is Dirk Nadon, owner of Lakes Media, a locally owned and operated company. We operate 6 Radio Stations in the Lakes Region & North Country and employ about a dozen LOCAL NH people. The work we do, locally, everyday is essential for the people of Belknap, Carroll, Merrimack, Grafton & Coos counties. And our small business partners, the lifeblood of our commerce, need every opportunity possible to promote and advertise their businesses. Like most of our business partners, my company is LOCALLY owned. And like our business partners, the dollars that flow through Lakes Media STAY in NH…we’re not a big, publicly traded Wall Street company that send profits out of state, nor are we owned by a billionaire who has no connection to our hometowns. So, please consider our support to give local small business a further advantage to advertising locally to promote the health of our small hometowns. I am writing in support of HB 1420-FN, the Lift Our Communities Advertise Locally Act. I urge you to pass NH House Bill 1420. Newspapers in the state of NH are struggling to stay alive. They want to serve the communities that depend upon them for local and state news, school spending, public safety and local events but it is becoming harder to do so because advertising dollars are drying up. National digital platforms such as Facebook and Google are dominating, and making it hard for a local media company to survive. NH needs local independent news reporting to keep our democracy strong. NH citizens need independent local newspapers and radio stations, so that they can make educated decisions when they go to vote, pay their taxes and participate in government. An educated well read populace is what keeps our state strong. Small businesses would benefit greatly from this bill because they would be able to use the credit to promote their services more affordably and efficiently. A small tax credit would have a big impact on a small business, allowing them to compete with larger corporations. NH remains robust partly because of all the independent small business owners who care about the state, the nation and upholding our individual liberties. Please consider supporting this bill which will help the state of NH and its citizens. Thank you for your consideration.

I support the bill. local media is important because it reports on local events that are not otherwise reported. Small local businesses that can earn the credit are also important to employment and services in the local area. I like the fact that the bill is targeted, temporary and capped.
This would help small businesses greatly! I work for The Laconia Daily Sun (also a small family run business) who relies on advertising for our very existence. Through the support of our advertisers, we continue to provide local news to our readers every Tuesday through Saturday. I have been with the paper for just about 24 years and have had many advertisers the entire time. Our trusted local newspaper contains, not only news, but also ads that promote our local businesses, many of whom are struggling, yet they advertise because they see the return. Something like this could help the "little guy" who may be on the brink of closing. It is important to have top of mind awareness to continue to thrive. 2025 was not such a good year, but I think everyone is hopeful for a better 2026. This could help. Please pass.
Small newspapers are crucial because they act as community hubs, holding local government accountable, driving local economies by supporting small businesses, preserving history, fostering civic engagement, and providing reliable, specific information that national outlets miss, strengthening social bonds and democracy at the grassroots level. They serve as essential watchdogs, transparent reporting, and platforms for local stories, connecting neighbors and ensuring local issues get covered
I support this bill on behalf of the many small businesses in New Hampshire who have had a very difficult 2025 season and are struggling to stay open. They need to advertise, but don't feel like the can use their limited funds to do so. Small businesses need financial help in order to stay in business by advertising. This tax credit would be very helpful.
