To: Members of the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee From: Jon Kelly, Concord, NH Re: YES to HB1582 I am concerned about our continuing loss of privacy in America. Consumers eagerly sign up for a “rewards” card for the illusion of a discount at a retail store, then the store sells their data. Drivers agree to put an EZ Pass device in their cars for the illusion of speed at the toll booth. Then the New York Civil Liberties Union reports that electronic readers keep tabs on drivers even when their cars are nowhere near a toll booth. And now we have cars that measure and report driving data. The false promise is that good drivers will get a discount. The reality is that imperfect drivers (i.e. all of us) will be punished even if a moment over the speed limit hurts no one. Who knows how that stored data will be used or misused or sold or stolen? With a YES on HB1582, you can say no to at least one invasion of privacy. Jon Kelly
