This would be such a huge barrier breakdown in the state. Everyone deserves to be able to run for office if they so choose. Everyone has a right to be a part of the political structure that runs this state. And it's always felt like this was something done purposefully to keep the majority of the residents of this state out of the statehouse. Allowing those who have full time jobs the space and opportunity to be part of the House or Senate lives up to the inclusiveness this state strives for. Live Free Or Die. Let residents be free to have the opportunity to run for something AND keep their jobs.

This bill seeks to solve the issue to remove one of the biggest barriers to true NH representation by affording legislators the same protection given to another form of civic duty - jury duty. Passing this bill would make it much easier for an HR or manager to justify regular unpaid time off for regular general court sessions. I approve this bill.
If we want true representation then this bill MUST be passed. When election is largely only available to those who can afford not to work then this is not true representation. The working class is the backbone of this country and therefore this state - to bar them from being elected and participating in government is a gross negligence by this legislative body and a disservice to the state of NH and all her residents. We must make sure this body is truly representative of all and that good work be completed, not just by those who are able to do so by luck or station in life, but by the best official elected by the people. By barring the working class from running due to fear or reality of losing their income we shrink the pool by which the public is able to choose their representation which implies no representation at all.
Dear Committee Members, I support this bill as I believe representation in the New Hampshire legislature is limited to three basic groups of people: the rich, the business owners, and the retired. This is a very common sense bill that expands democracy and allows others to stand up and run for office. It is not asking for a raise in legislative salary, it isn’t even demanding paid time off from employers. All this bill asks for is a chance for a broader spectrum of the population to run for office. Thank you for your time and consideration. (P.S. If it passes, I may become your colleague some day.)
I have considered running for the legislature but find that daunting with having to work my full time job to provide for my family. I am in favor of this bill in order to provide some protections attending general sessions.
In order for legislators to do their job for their constituents, their day jobs should be protected since they don't earn a livable wage through their duties as elected officials.
