I wholeheartedly support this bill. This would be a token gesture on the part of the State of New Hampshire to show their appreciation to our veterans for their service and dedication to our country. In regards to the financial implications, I would like to point out that according to the 2025 Veterans Snapshot produced by the Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services, over 50% of the veterans in NH are over the age of 65. This means that they are already eligible for $1 parking at beaches like Wallis Sands, so offering free parking for veterans would not be as much of a financial loss for the state.

As a disabled veteran of the USMC during the Vietnam War I fully support this bill.i believe we need to give our veterans any break we can. Thank you Michael J Hayden

Testimony in Support of HB 1768-FN My name is Representative Nicholas Bridle, and I am the prime sponsor of HB 1768-FN. I respectfully submit this testimony in support of the bill. HB 1768-FN allows honorably discharged New Hampshire resident veterans to access state parks without paying day-use admission or metered parking fees. This is a simple, respectful recognition of service that removes a financial barrier to enjoying our public lands. State parks provide more than recreation. They offer opportunities for physical activity, mental well-being, reflection, and family connection. For many veterans, access to outdoor spaces is especially meaningful. This bill ensures that veterans are welcomed and able to enjoy these benefits without additional cost. The bill is intentionally narrow and easy to administer. Acceptable proof includes commonly held documentation such as a veteran license plate or DD-214, minimizing administrative burden for both park staff and visitors. It applies only to New Hampshire residents who were honorably discharged and does not extend to overnight camping or specialty fees. Regarding the fiscal note, HB 1768-FN does not create new expenditures, require additional staffing, or establish a new program. It reflects a policy decision to prioritize veteran access over a limited portion of park revenue while preserving the overall operation and integrity of the state park system. HB 1768-FN is a practical way to express gratitude through action. It affirms that New Hampshire’s state parks are truly public spaces and that veterans are recognized and valued.
