I am OPPOSED to this bill and believe that the I-9 already provides for the verification of employes in NH. This new legislation will be burdensome to employers and employees and is redundant in nature. Please vote AGAINST this bill and do not support this bill. Thank you.

146 submissionsThis bill is bad on many levels - but two major ones stand out to me. First, NH proclaims to be a "business friendly" state but this would put one more level of bureaucracy in place that hinders and stalls efficient hiring of employees - and costs time and money. Second, there is no protections or due process for a potential employee to challenge inaccurate reportings/findings. Oppose this legislation and lets continue to work for a New Hampshire where finding and hiring workers is not the hardest part of our jobs.
The E-Verify system is faulty and unreliable. This bill would burden employers and making it harder for ALL NH workers to find jobs.
This bill would burden employers and make it harder for folks to get jobs.
I am a member of the NH Immigrant Rights Network. HB 69 is unnecessary. Employers are already required to establish that prospective employees are eligible to work and also to maintain records to this effect. This state needs to protect a business and worker-friendly environment. I urge members of this committee to vote to reject HR 69, as you have on several occasions in the past. Thank you.
This bill is totally unnecessary and serves only to intimidate. It will be very damaging to the NH economy.
I oppose requiring businesses to use the faulty E-verify system in New Hampshire. It will be more work for employers, and make it harder for NH applicants to find jobs. Please don't pass this bill!
An E-Verify mandate is not the NH way. Let employers continue to decide if they wish to use this tool. They are already required to verify eligibility to work via the I-9 process.
This bill would hobble employment with an E-Verify system that is plagued by inaccuracies, is invasive, and promises to be expensive. It will add another layer of red tape that will discourage would-be workers. Yet another approach that penalizes all in order to snag a few.
I am writing to implore the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services Committee to SOUNDLY reject HB 69. I have been a small business owner in NH and a Board member of several organizations through which I have been directly involved in the hiring process for many dozens of hires. The notion that the New Hampshire Legislature would mandate that all NH businesses use a notoriously glitch-prone, error-filled federal E-Verify system for all hiring is just beyond comprehension. There is no merit to this whatsoever, despite what the sponsors might say about vetting worker backgrounds and eligibility to work in NH (or the U.S.). NH employers are well aware of the duty to review employee credentials and work eligibility. To layer another fault-laden system on top of that and to mandate its use is simply not the NH way. It is not business friendly, and it certainly adds to the disadvantage of doing business in NH. If any NH employer WISHES to use the E-Verify system, it is certainly the employer's right to do so. The fact that this system is not popular at all with employers should be a signal to this Committee and to the Legislature that the type of mandate envisioned in HB 69 is simply WRONG for NH. I hope you will speedily find this bill Inexpedient to legislate. Thank you for your service to the State of New Hampshire. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Gail Kinney, Canaan
I Oppose this bill because it will add yet another barrier to the already difficult hiring and job search process for both citizens and non-citizens alike. This bill also targets vulnerable communities.
As I understand it, NH already uses a good verification system called I-9. So, why complicate the work and expense entailed using the E-verify system? Hey, in the 603, it's supposed to one "Live Free or Die!"
This bill would require NH businesses to use the faulty E-Verify system, burdening employers and making it harder for NH workers - non-citizens and citizens alike – to find jobs. Please vote NO on this bill.
Its already hard to find work- this would make it harder for everyone and put a huge burden on NH workers and businesses.
If New Hampshire is supposed to be a business-friendly state, bills like this are not the way. This will just force businesses to waste their time using E-verify systems and make it harder for them to hire workers. This is negative for both immigrants and people who are citizens here. Cut it out with the fear-mongering and stop trying to make it harder for people to live here and work here.
E-verify is full of errors, so requiring employers to use it would burden employers and deprive people entitled to employment of the jobs they need.
This has been a long time coming. Should have been done 20 years ago.
The E-Verify system has been found to be faulty. It also places burdens on employers and job seekers that amount to additional red tape. For a party that preaches deregulation, it is hypocritical to be sponsoring this legislation. Scrap it.
Please OPPOSE HB sixty nine. HB sixty nine uses E-Verify, which is faulty, so the innocent will suffer. HB sixty nine hampers Granite State competitiveness by placing a costly administrative burden on businesses. HB sixty nine will interfere with the entire Granite State workforce.
This would be a burden for employers.
This bill would require NH businesses to use the faulty E-Verify system, harming NH workers - non-citizens and citizens alike. This practice is discrimination at its worst. We the people are tired of being assaulted by others who have no trust, no faith in fellow American citizens.
Deaer Members of the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitation Services, Thank you for serving on this committe. You are critical to the success of Granite state employers and employee. HB 69 will seriously harm our employers and provide no protections that are not already in place. I know many very small NH business owners that will be harmed. These small businesses are critical to our local economy and bring in important tax revenues. 'Tax revenues from businesses help keep my taxes as low as possbile, so this bill could raise taxes. Also, this bill has no method or financial estimates to cover the costs of enforcement. In Sum, requiring every employer to use E-Verify duplicates processes already in place, is too great a burden, and includes errors that harm employers and employees. Please vote against this bill. There are other ways to be sure we have proper employees working in NH. Regards, Cynthia Walter
New Hampshire prides itself as being a business-friendly state but forced use of E-Verify on all businesses does not promote that concept. The proposed bill does not include any due process protections for employees that are wrongfully turned away due to system error.
This system is already optional so that businesses can choose to use it if they wish. It is a faulty system that poses financial burdens on businesses, however, and has caught innocent people in its web so should not be mandated in NH.
At a time of budget deficits, we have no business removing the cap on a program that has already cost the state millions of dollars, favored children from middle class and wealthy families, and has no educational accountability. Passing this bill is fiscally irresponsible. It also strikes at the heart of our public education system that serves all children by passing on the state's responsibility to the local taxpayer.
