I am in complete shock that any person would think it wise to propose cutting any of the b subjects from our state public education: Arts education including music and visual arts?, World languages?, Engineering and technologies including technology applications?, Personal finance literacy?, Computer Science?, Further, this bill would remove “civics, government, economics, geography, history, and Holocaust and genocide education,” which is currently specified in the definition of social studies. As a former public school music teacher in New Hampshire, and a parent of two current NH public school students, I find it appalling. I hope that this bill is voted down, and may our public schools in New Hampshire continue to excel and thrive so that the children of this state can lead our nation in both their academic performance, but their sense of self and sense of trust in the fact that their communities have supported their upbringing and education.

My husband and all three of my children are success stories because of f STEM education. Three are engineers and one is a doctor. This is a critical part of any/all education programs at all levels. NH must continue to emphasize STEM education to give our children the foundation for engineering, science and math based career paths.
The need to emphasize STEM education is paramount for students to grow as involved citizens toward understanding and protecting their natural world. Moreover, those with strong STEM backgrounds have a much better chance of success across multiple fields of study and employment due to the implementation of logic in the methods employed in STEM.

All sources of energy should be used to the fullest extent - why would we not try to maximize green energy at every level in our demand for electricity, transportation and heating our homes. Many forms of green energy such as solar are renewable - they are constantly being replenished. Focussing on just fossil fuels is not intelligent in the long run as they are finite. Doing this not only makes our country weaker but threatens our national security. China is now the leading producer of solar panels, in fact they make 80% of them in the world. The Chinese company Tongwei Group, which makes solar panels, employs over 60,000 people and has over 400 branches worldwide. The opportunity for the United States to regain our edge in science and technology is tremendous, we have the engineers and scientists here to make that happen. The creation of green jobs for our country will not only help our economy but will strengthen our communities. Teaching our children to compete in this world on every level including Science, technology and math is one of the most important things we can be doing for the future of our country, to not do so is a failure on our part.

As captain of my highschool robotics team, I’ve seen first hand the impact and importance of a strong stem education. On my team, I see even the youngest students excel in both social and technical skills, even well beyond upperclassmen who do not receive the same level of stem experience. Without the proficiency and knowledge I have gained from being both a member of a FIRST team, and a student at the Academy for Science and Design, I can say with absolute certainty, that I would not be nearly as ready to pursue a STEM focused career as I am today in order to improve my home state of NH. As the pioneering example of what it means to be American, New Hampshire should seek to foster that innovation in our youth. New Hampshire is great, but we can still work to make it even greater. I fully support this bill to promote access to STEM classes for all NH students. I have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and graduate studies in Fire Protection Engineering. I have been working in an engineering role since 1994. I have also coached a high school FIRST robotics team for the past 10 years. As a high school student my school did not have any classes available in computers beyond the very basics. My teachers took the time and their own resources to create independent studies for my in electronics and computer programming. These projects sparked my interest and opened a career option for me. I am surprised that 40 years later, with the high demand for engineering skills in this country, and the availability of software and electronics available at such a low cost, that this remains an area where schools in New Hampshire struggle to provide. I see this firsthand coaching a robotics team. We have parents and students seeking STEM education with the robotics team because it's not something accessible in many schools. Solving gaps between workplace demand and educated workers is often a 10 year problem to solve. Let's not waste any more time.
I am a veteran, a former high school teacher, a resident of NH (Alstead, but residing currently at Convenant Living at Keene) It should be obvious to anyone that STEM education is an essential part of preparation for living in the present as well as future in New Hampshire. Even if a student has no future use of knowledge in STEM concepts etc., he/she in the future will be voting on many issues where technology is a major factor. So, STEM education is important at trhe high school level for all our children.
