Corporate welfare is where you should be looking, wealth discrepancy is off the charts, and you want to worry about these pennies, this is a dog whistle to try to make life more difficult for those we should be supporting, every dollar that goes to the poor and working class goes right back into the economy. Have some morals, the government is supposed to be working to protect the vulnerable, not the wealthy.
I work at the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter and we wrote testimony against the original SB615 bill. I was present at the State House for all of the testimony for the first version of this bill and was appalled at the lack of understanding by the legislators of how SNAP works, what it does, and how the committee's main focus was concern that people using SNAP would use some of their SNAP money to pay for foods that the legislators did not approve of. When one legislator asked, "Wouldn't it be nice if we could reward people for eating well, instead of trying to make sure that they do not waste their money on junk food?" I was not surprised, but was distressed that none of the people on the committee had heard that SNAP already does this with their "Double UP Bucks" program. It was obvious that the legislators did not know much about SNAP. We definitely need this committee.

I SUPPORT SB 615, the SNAP BILL to study the SNAP program. know that a hungry child cannot learn which is why I strongly support SB 615. We must ensure our state’s nutrition programs are working effectively to reach the 1 in 7 New Hampshire children facing food insecurity. This study commission is a responsible, data-driven step toward ensuring our students come to school healthy and ready to succeed. Thank you.
I am an independent voter. I was opposed to the original iteration of this bill, which I saw as an attempt to deny SNAP benefits to people in our community through the creation of impossible "work requirements" and hard to police limits on what food SNAP recipients are allowed to purchase. I don't trust the commission now established by this bill, but want to voice my sincere preference that the politicians involved focus committee efforts on how to feed hungry people via SNAP, and not on new ways to deny benefits to hungry people.
This is an OK idea, but we are putting the cart before the horses. in New Hampshire (and every state), SNAP benefits cannot be used to buy toilet paper or diapers. Before we worry about candy and soda, if we really want to help our residents, help them be able to purchase paper products first, specially toilet paper and diapers. After you do this, successfully, candy and soda could could be addressed. But first things first.
